Parent Effectiveness Training

Invest 24 hours - profit for a lifetime

P.E.T. does NOT blame, preach or prescribe your parenting style.

When everyone is calm and happy, there’s no need for a ‘parenting programme'.

When someone’s upset or angry, or when there’s a disagreement or argument, you need a Plan of Action.

This is what PET gives you – a way to solve problems, your way, in your family.

THE BEHAVIOUR WINDOW

Like a road map, the Behaviour Window gives structure to help untangle a problem.

Knowing if it is MY problem, THEIR problem, or OUR problem, is crucial in choosing the most effective approach.

As you develop your skills and children become more responsive you will often prevent problems developing at all.

THE TOOL KIT

The communication skills you learn:- Active Listening, Sending clear I-Messages, and the No-Lose Method of problem solving help you tackle every kind of problem.

Course Content

The 24 hour course, usually delivered in 8 x 3-hour sessions, includes:-

  • 1 PARENTS ARE HUMAN

They do not have to be consistent, present a united front, be forever tolerant, submerge their own needs.

  • 2 HOW TO LISTEN

Active Listening is a powerful way to hear. More than ever we need our children to feel that they can share their concerns with us, and be heard.

  • 3 PUTTING SKILLS TO WORK

Becoming proficient at any new skill needs practice and repetition.

  • 4 PREVENTING PROBLEMS

By being clear about our needs and willing to make changes in our houses/schedules etc. we can prevent problems developing.

  • 5 HOW TO TALK...

So kids will listen. We can change the way we say things; I-messages make it easier for others to cooperate.

  • 6 RESOLVING CONFLICTS

The 'crunch-time' - using the No-Lose Method ensures creative solutions. No need for power and so no resentment.

  • 7 USING METHOD lll

The No-Lose Method avoids rebellion, fosters cooperation - and takes practice.

  • 8 HOW TO AVOID BEING FIRED

A clash of values can evoke strong emotions and be a deal breaker. How to be a good consultant so children consider your values.
